The Tying of the Knot

A Handfasting Ceremony

Overlooking the Saint Lawrence River, the ceremony to unite us is non-traditional — and yet steeped in tradition. Beneath a decorated arch, surrounded by nature, where land, air, and water meet, we will be united in a handfasting ceremony, speaking our vows and exchanging rings.

Handfasting is both ancient and widely practiced. Originating among the Celtic, Germanic, and Norse peoples, it is where the expression "tying the knot" comes from — the binding together of fates, the inexorable unity of two individuals brought together to form a new whole.

Where land, air, and water meet, we will be made one.

The World We Are Stepping Into

A Fantastical,
Celtic, Norse Wedding

Both of us are avid readers, and we have always loved disappearing into imagined worlds. We wanted to build a wedding in our own image: an experience meant to welcome you into another place and time, to the kind of celebration our collective imagination likes to picture.

From the choice of traditions in our ceremony to the decoration of our reception, you will find yourself in a setting that is elegant, distinctive, and gently fantastical — without ever crossing into the costumed or the comical.

A celebration in our own image.

The Dress Code

Black Tie

This is a black tie wedding.

  • Gentlemen — Tuxedos, or refined dark suits.

  • Ladies — Evening gowns or similar.

We invite you to choose attire that lives within our colour palette or its extended royal range, where possible. Our vision is one of glamorous gala — but we understand this is not always feasible. At the very least, we ask that your attire remain tasteful and in keeping with the venue and the formality of the celebration.

A note on practicality: parts of the day are outdoors, on grass. We recommend bringing a wrap or light coat — Charlevoix evenings in May can carry a chill from the river.
